Now that I'm working full-time as a young adult librarian I haven't been posting nearly as much, but I wanted to at least do my end of the year lists! 1) Ms. Marvel: Generation Why by G. Willow Wilson I love this comic series overall, but this one so clearly nails a lot of the things I've heard from teens recently. Their annoyance at older generations misjudging and underestimating them, their ability to come together despite differences, and their genuine desire to make their worlds a better place. Kamala Khan is just a fabulous protagonist overall, relatably trying to juggle her friends, family, faith, education, and, oh yeah, newfound superpowers. Plus, the cameos. The cameos. So many familiar faces from the Marvel universe have appeared, which is especially fun because Kamala is such an unabashed fangirl. I really can't praise this series highly enough- just go check it out for yourself. 2) Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson Sensing a theme? 2015 was a huge year for ...

My Review
Marked is a real kick-butt start to the House of Night series. I thought it was totally un-put-down-able and I loved the mystery and fun surrounding the storyline!
Zoey Redbird is a wonderful character, she is strong, likeable and genuinely really funny. I loved watching her grow throughout the story, she found who she was as a person, gained confidence and also made some fantastic friends along the way. The secondary group of characters bring a ton of humour and are just an all round fun group.
Having read soooo many vampire tales, I breathed a big sigh of relief when I discovered how exciting and different this is from everything else out there. The authors have brought a fab and very original take on vamps to the table here and I really enjoyed it.
The storyline follows main character Zoey and the danger she is thrown into after being marked by a vampire. She has to move into the House of Night school like all of the other fledglings. But she soon discovers that all isn't what it seems....
Zoey seems to have been given special powers by the goddess Nyx. But everything doesn't run smoothly for her, people seem to be out to get her and she needs to watch her back....
Marked is a fantastic start to what I expect will be a brilliant series. It is filled with fun and humour but danger and tension lurk round every corner. A must read book!
4 / 5 Stars!
